I cannot wait to catch my breath. It’s been such an insanely busy week, and next week is no better. School’s out tomorrow, and summer camp begins on Monday. I cannot wait until next weekend, when I can finally breath! Do you have something that has been handed down to you? I have many of them, which I feel so grateful for. One of which is this amazing rocking chair, from my great grandmother, Maria Fonseca.
She passed away a few years ago at the ripe old age of 98. I still remember when my family had first moved to Florida. She would walk to the grocery store, dress in black, with a shawl and scarf wrapped around her head in 90 degrees, and then walk to our house, just to deliver some groceries, and say hello. She did not have her drivers license, nor did she want it. She made the best black beans and rice I’ve ever had, amongst some of the best spanish food we got the honor of enjoying. She was the best. I remember going to visit her when I was a little girl, and walking down the hallway, calling to her “Come on, Geeg!” (I abbreviated EVERYTHING…her name for us was GGma).
This is ggma blowing out her candles on her 97th birthday!!
She was born in 1910, and passed away in 2009. I feel so grateful to have had 25 awesome years. Talking about her always makes me smile.
Do you know what else makes me smile? The lovely Kara, of Sprinkles in Springs, has chosen little ol’ me as her Blogger of the Month! I couldn’t be more honored. She created these awesome illustrations, she is so talented! Please check out my feature here. I’m so excited!
