You know that old saying, “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure”? I love that saying. Give me something tossed away any day over something brand spanking new. It’s one of the reasons I love vintage so much – there’s history behind each item – a story to be told. I’ve been a thrifter & dumpster diver since I was a kid. You can always find such incredible stuff at thrift shops, or even better – on bulk trash pick up day. That’s the day where you can toss everything big and bulky to the curb, and what’s left after everyone has picked through it goes with the garbage truck the next morning. People drive around like crazies on bulk trash day. I’ve decided it’s when you can find some of the coolest treasures. I found this awesome vintage Brunswick bowling bag out on the curb during bulk trash day a few weeks ago. It came with a bowling ball and everything, but after a little bit of hard work with a rubber mallet (to remove the steel frame inside), Scott helped me re-purpose this bag into a fully functional handbag. Want to know something else? I found this dresser on the curb when I was 18. I was driving to my mom’s house, saw it on the side of the road and freaked out. I grabbed my mom & told her we needed to go pick up a dresser. We loaded it up in my CRV and carried it up the stairs. Let me tell you – this solid oak vintage dresser with minimal wear & damage is probably one of the best pieces of furniture I have. See? One man’s trash is most definitely another man’s treasure.Β
Fashion Tip: Everything has a story behind it, whether its old or new. Think about what you can do to re-purpose something before you toss it or pass it along to a friend who you think will appreciate it. It’s a fun & fashionable way to recycle.Β

Look at you with that cute little hat!! It’s so much fun repurposing things, especially furniture. I’m in the middle of redoing my grandmother’s dresser for the nursery. That dresser was part of her furniture set when she first got married over 50 years ago. That alone has made me fall in love with it! πŸ™‚

Eeee I so agreee! What a cute set of finds – the bag and the dresser! My roomate recently picked up a little side-table off the side of the road as she was walking home, and it’s exactly what we needed and matches the other table in our living room PERFECTLY! I also realized that a LOT of my furniture and stuff has either been given up by other family members or is thrifted!

Oh I love your OOTD and your dumpster diving stories -YES! My dear late beloved daddy taught me how to -ahem – recycle, before that was even fashionable! When I had to clean out my parents house of accumulated *stuff*, I certainly did my share of taking stuff by the carload to Goodwill BUT a great deal of it I put on the kerb for “the pickers” πŸ™‚
