Striped Dresses Two Ways

I have been completely smitten with striped dresses lately. I have two in my closet, and I am so drawn to them I’m tempted to buy more. I’ve worn both dresses here on the blog, and wanted to show them to you, together. I think the striped dress is such a versatile piece that it really belongs in everyone’s closet. Here’s my first striped dress – my initial love affair:

Outfit 3
Dress – Forever 21 | Jacket – INC (Macy’s – old) | Bag –  Melie Bianco, c/o LuLus.com | Flatforms – Gee WaWa, c/o LuLus.com | Belt – Target | Locket – Etsy |  Bracelets – Forever 21
In this outfit, I paired this cute skater style dress with a military (aka michael jackson style) jacket, mustard belt, funky flatforms, tons of bracelets, a vintage locket, and great red bag. I really like this dress with or without tights. It’s just long enough that it’s ok without tights, but short enough that tights are an optional addition.
I most recently wore another striped dress:

Dress – Old Navy | Belt – Target | Jacket – Gap, Thrifted | Mary Janes – Seychelles | Bracelet – INPink |
Necklaces – Forever 21
I went minimal with this outfit. Denim jacket, mustard belt, a single chunky bracelet, layered necklaced, and a pair of peep-toe mary janes from Seychelles. I really like the mustard color with the black & white stripes. There’s something so lovely about it. All three colors really compliment each other, and I can wear mustard in almost every season! I really like that this dress is longer. It’s perfect for the super hot days we’ve been having lately. I feel it’s the perfect length to be worn with out tights, though tights could be added, if done correctly.
Fashion Tip: Any size or shape can wear stripes. Typically, wider stripes are very flattering on a smaller figure, while thin stripes are the perfect compliment for a curvier figure.
Which outfit is your favorite?

  4. I LOVE how you’ve put the more structured jackets over the striped dresses. I tend to do the same thing because I love stripes so much but am curvy and very busty, so I have to be careful how I wear them. Both outfits look made for you – incredibly gorgeous and perfectly hug your curves – hello Joan Holloway :) <3 Marisa

I LOVE stripes. I keep on telling people that ANYONE no matter what their figure-type CAN wear horizontal stripes! I love both dresses; it’s too hard to pick a fave!

Pretty sure half my wardrobe is now stripes! Just bought a stripe dress the past weekend similar to yours and love it. Love the added pop of color in the belt and bag.

  9. The dress is super cute and I totally love it with the MJ style jacket.

  10. Both of these outfits are lovely! I think I have at least 3 different striped dresses now, all in different lengths and styles. They work for every occasion. I really adore the jean jacket and mustard belt. They dress it right up!

Gah! I can’t even choose which look I love more – they are both stunning! I have an obsession with denim jackets, so I’m leaning towards look # 2; though I do love the pops of mustard and red in look # 1. Gorgeous!! :)

  13. Marlen says:

i really like both of them! but i think i like the second more slightly more because of the jean jacket- i’m obsessed with them. you look so pretty- and when thinking about it, i don’t think i have any striped dresses! i hear an excuse to shop… ;)

Kirstin, I think this dress is a winner no matter what you wear it with! I have to confess to having been scared of “horizontal” stripes all of my life. This summer, for the first time in ten years, I wore a stripped shirt my sister gave me for my birthday. And I think I looked okay! ha! I think it’s all about tearing down these silly notions that certain body types shouldn’t wear this or that. I say, it’s time we wear what we want and feel comfortable in. I’m sure you agree! :)

  15. I am a stripe lover too!!
    Can’t ever have enough ;)
You look fabulous and I love the addition of the military jacket!!!

  16. LOVE a good classic stripe dress! I’ve been searching for the perfect maxi in this pattern.
