Hello my lovelies!! I am really excited to share with you a guest post from a fellow reader, Patricia. When she contacted me with her idea of doing a post about floral arrangements, I had to say yes. One of my favorite things to do is create floral arrangements, have fresh flowers in the house, etc. I really feel that a beautiful floral arrangement can really create the atmosphere and accentuate the style of a room. Little details like displays of fresh flowers are what makes the space more inviting. Think of it as a great outfit that your are adding accessories to. Let’s move on to Patricia’s article!
Choosing a modern floral arrangement is much harder than it appears. It is very difficult to strike a balance between delicate beauty and old-fashioned stuffiness. A contemporary floral arrangement should convey a sense of fun or humor without being entirely informal. The easiest way to achieve this is to choose several small pots instead of one large vase in which to display the flowers.
Creative Display Options
Using multiple pots allows one to display different flowers in each pot instead of creating one large arrangement. In a clever twist, the whole pots can then be arranged on a table. If working with this technique, it is best to choose just two or three different colors of flowers and order the appropriate amount of small arrangements of each type. As long as the flowers in each bouquet are the same color, the bouquets can be comprised of different kinds of flowers. This will provide variations in texture and is a subtle way of incorporating more than one kind of flower into a simple arrangement. Florists can cut the flower stems at varying lengths to create some more visual interest. All of the flowers of one color could be several inches taller than the flowers of other colors.
Another fresh twist on the traditional floral arrangement is to use a vase that is short and wide instead of tall and tapered. A flat arrangement subliminally encourages people at a table to talk to each other more, since it does not obscure anyone from view. Open flowers in rustic autumnal colors also encourage conversation because they are bright and casual even when they are crisp. Big yellow or orange lilies are beautiful and unexpected. They can stand on their own against a dark table setting, or they can be surrounded by dark and subdued flowers that allow the lilies to shine. Deep purples and reds complement bright yellows very well. If possible, a bright arrangement such as this one should be displayed in a vase that is black, brown or dark green, unless it is possible to find a vase that perfectly matches the red or purple companion flowers.
A bowl or a clear vase containing water greens is a summery centerpiece for a very casual gathering. Any plant can be grown without soil as long as the water is properly fortified. A plant in a transparent holder is eye-catching because the roots are visible. This means that the whole length of the plant will be seen, so the rest of the table setting should not contain any other green items. The plant can be accented with thin circular slices of lemons or oranges. Small white lilies can also be added, although this will take the focus off of the other plants. The vase or bowl should be narrow enough to keep the plants standing upright. An assortment of mason jars in various sizes can also be used to hold smaller arrangements of this nature. Sunflowers and daisies signify youth and modernity, but they should not be displayed together even though they both have yellow elements. Only one kind of flower should be showcased in an arrangement; the surrounding flowers should be unobtrusive placeholders like mums or baby’s breath. This minimalism will set the arrangement apart from old-fashioned ones, which tend to be overwhelmingly uniform or cloyingly ornate. A few daisies surrounded by baby’s breath is a tasteful addition to any table. The table decorations should not match the flowers exactly. The flowers might match a small detail in the pattern of the tablecloth or china. This will pull the room together without completely covering the table in one color.

Last Minute Details
Online flower deliveries can be scheduled in advance of an important event. To save time and money, the event planner can have the florists deliver loose bouquets that she will then cut and arrange to her liking. If she takes this route, she should purchase her vases or pots ahead of time and have them ready when the flowers are delivered. Flowers that are held in small pots or jars can be given to guests as favors at the end of the night.
