I have been obsessed with the idea of floral mary janes ever since I saw the lovely Kara from Sprinkles in Springs rocking them. I searched on ebay, amazon, forever 21…all of them were either out of stock, or way over priced (forever 21 floral mary janes on ebay were running $50 – $80 for one pair!!). That’s when I got the brilliant idea to make my own.
My Inspiration:
Step One: Lay a protective mat down (in my case, and old towel), to protect the surface you are working on from over spray.
Step Two: Measure the fabric out for each shoe, and decide where you want to start. In my case, I used half a yard for the pair (with some scrap left over), and I started with the heel. I wanted a fully wrapped heel, so this was a bit difficult, as the heel of this particular pair tapered in .
Step Three: Spray the section of the shoe you’ve chosen to start with with the adhesive spray, and begin to wrap the fabric. Be sure to pull the fabric tightly to avoid any wrinkles or pulls. Smooth out the fabric so it adheres to the shoe.
Step Four: Continue spraying the adhesive and wrapping the fabric as tightly as you can until you’ve completed the entire shoe. The toe does get a bit difficult. I ended up making a few little cuts in the fabric so I could have minimal wrinkles & folds of fabric. I ended up gathering the fabric in some areas, and liked the look of it. I also chose to leave the strap black, as a personal touch.
Step Five: Patiently wait for your shoes to dry. The adhesive recommends 3 – 5 hours, but I am letting mine dry over night, just to be sure. Once the shoes have been drying for a few hours, feel free to trim any extra fabric that may be left from the wrapping.

You are BRILLIANT.

Ahhhh!!! I love it! That’s so creative to spray glue on fabric.. I never would have thought to do that. I would have probably tried to paint the whole shoe by hand.. haha! Can’t wait to see them in person! We have to get together soon.
Wow-those look incredible!
